Our almonds

The fields of the municipality of Vinaixa are very favourable for the cultivation of almonds. In fact, almonds, after olive cultivation, is the most extensive in Vinaixa and is part of the economy of the past and present of the town.

The almond harvest takes place in early autumn, after the vineyard and before the olive campaign. Farmers gather the almonds and they usually separate them through machines to remove the almonds peels. Thereafter, they are brought to Cooperativa del Camp, who then take the lead in selling them to producers.

The Vinaixa climate (cold and wet in the winter and hot and dry in the summer) enhances the quality of the almonds, one of the nuts used the most in sweets (panellets, for example, or pastries in general) and meals (stews, casseroles, etc.).
